Stand up for owners, Ted, Weekly Times, 12th May 2010

NO POLITICIAN worth his salt should stand by and see families and farmers on the urban fringe pay a tax that no other landowner in Australia has to pay, argues MICHAEL HOCKING.

Mr Baillieu you stood in the Beveridge Hall beating your chest about never allowing such a tax to be imposed on land owners. You have now apparently caved in to the demands of developers and the Labour government to allow this obscene tax through.

By reducing the people effected with 10 hectare properties or more you have made no friends. This whole policy process has been dictated by divide and conquer methods from the start, and now back room negotiations reeking of untrustworthy and unscrupulous politicians

Mr Guy you can talk all you like about reversing the tax if elected because the people effected by your backflip now know that your words hold no value!

Ted show some backbone and vote this tax out!

Dear Matthew Guy
How can we believe what you are saying that if you are elected in 7 months that you will change the GAIC and that it is imposed at the compliance statement stage? You have been saying for the last 15 months at numerous rallies and public meetings that the only way you will accept the GAIC if it is levied on the developer upon development for all landowners no matter the size of land.

Why should we believe you now? Typical politician, all spin, no substance!

If you really want to prove yourself you have the 25 May 10 when the legislation is debated in the upper house, or are the Liberal politicians all "in co-herts with Labour"?

To Ted and the Liberals

When a storm is coming galahs all fly to the trees. The eagle is the only bird that flies into the storm!

Pinocchio’s nose grows longer every day
As he pretends only developers will have to pay
A land tax of the most unjust sort
That anyone with the capacity for thought
Would baulk at if they only knew
Private citizens will have to pay it too
Most of the media’s fallen for the government’s lies
But thank heavens for The Weekly Times
